While attending graduate school in Oregon he worked at Tigard Covenant Church and filled many roles ranging from worship band member to youth pastor. Donny has worked extensively with youth in many capacities including ministry roles, volunteer work, clinical internship, and care of severely abused youths in residential treatment. Donny also works as a nutritional lifestyle coach and has participated in several clinical research studies investigating issues of health and wellness. The latest of these studies was published in the clinical health care journal, Obesity and Weight Management. Donny started practicing with Pearl Counseling in 2005 and has enjoyed his work with adults, children, couples, and teens. He is looking forward to developing a group therapy program to be available at Pearl Counseling in 2010.
Therapeutic Style:Donny's approach to counseling is rooted in the belief that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship he and the client build. All change, improvement, or progress flows from the trust and respect that is established in this relationship. Donny does not believe that as a counselor he is in any way superior to the client or the greater element in the relationship. Rather, he is committed to working on the same level as the client as they pursue goals that they set as a team. He sees his role as one of a facilitator of change as the client’s present behaviors, beliefs, family system, and worldview are explored. Donny will assist the client in reevaluating his or her style of life with the hope of achieving insight and meaningful change.
